I need to learn Spanish. No, it's not just to rally votes. lol
I found out I am now officially part of our Spanish ministry and I speak maybe 3 words and terribly. I preach the 2nd Sunday of each month for now through an interpreter. I would love to show them I care enough to at least try to learn. Someone suggested a computer program but with me not working purchasing anything right now isn't an option. Any suggestions?
P.S. Pray, we might get a Bible Study with a new couple who have attended the Spanish services but both understand English.
I pod has free podcasts that are good. It's called Discover Spanish.
FreeRice is good.
I would try YouTube though.
Someone introduced me to duolingo.com. Free and helpful so far.

With a foreign language, you need to learn from a native speaker. Too many variables.
Examples: The word used for Potatoes in Spanish, with the wrong inflection can be either bathroom or daddy. Another word that is often a nickname for a little girl, if said wrong is a naughty word.
To many words that have to be precise and the proper usage of EL or La with the O or A. Do you always use El when the word ends with O and L when it ends with A? Nouns only?
La Foto is an exception ( = Photo ). Want to listen to the Radio - la radio because El radio is ''radius". A cop - La Guardia and the Pope is El Papa but Papa is a potato or Pa' pa' is daddy.
In Columbian Spanish they have a phrase for Praise the Lord that those who speak other dialects will be very confused.
Perro = dog
Pero = ''but"
My Spanish is very rusty and our Spanish ministry people have to correct me all the time. But yes - Taco, you are best to learn from a native speaker.
If money is tight, and you can't afford it, I understand, but the best thing you could do, especially if you're preaching to a Spanish speaking group is:
Get a KJV - Reina Valera Bible.
Familiarize yourself with theological concepts in Spanish.
For example:
The Gospel of Jesus Christ = El evangelio de Jesuscristo
To Repent = Arrepentirse
The Redeemer = El Redentor
Just using these simply Biblical phrases will go a long way to showing them you care enough to try.
Short of buying such a Bible, you could go to www.biblegateway.com and do the comparison/contrasting there.
